Terminology
The terms used in throughout the inventory section.
Warehouse
A physical storage location where Items are stored and from where they will be processed and shipped.
Supplier Catalog
A collection of Items which are supplied by a single supplier.
Item
A physical object that is stored in a Warehouse. Items have physical attributes such as weight, size etc.
Requested Item
When an item is required, on the workorder, a user may search the inventory catalog for the Inventory Item that they require. Upon selection. These items become an Inventory Request. Inventory Requests are items requested but not yet ordered. This give administrators the power to audit requests and determine if the item is suitable and available before creating orders. In addition, it enables administrators to group multiple requests into a single order to save on shipping and processing labour costs.
Order
A collection of Inventory Requests which is designated for a single recipient and has:
One or more Items.
One or more Shipments.
Shipment
A shipment that has information about it's contents and is sent to an Courier and has:
A sending Warehouse
A Recipient
Tracking Information
One or more Packages
Track Only Shipments
A rudimentary tracking shipment, they do not have any properties other than a tracking number. Multiple may exist per workorder or Order. They don't track any specific item, it is just a reference that something is being tracked.
Package
A container with one or more Items inside. It can also be an Item that is shipped in its own container if it has been marked as such. It may be a Box, Pallet etc.
Courier
An external company responsible for taking the Shipment from the Warehouse to the Destination.
Box
A container defined within the system with physical attributes that Items are shipped in. Edited in the Common Data section.
